Houston--Center of Excellence
A member of the Texas Medical Center since 2009, the University of Houston (UH) (www.uh.edu) offers a wealth of health science programs that prepare students for careers in the health and medical field; address health-related scientific, engineering and policy issues; and offer clinical programs that are directly involved in patient care. Conferring nearly a quarter of health degrees in the region, UH enrolls more than 11,000 students in its 97 health-related degree programs, and nearly 40 percent of UH’s total research awards are in the health sciences. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, HCA Healthcare is one of the nation’s leading providers of health care services. Made up of locally managed facilities that together experience more than 26 million patient encounters each year, HCA includes more than 250 hospitals and freestanding surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom. The Houston area alone boasts 10 locations that include medical centers in Conroe, East Houston, Kingwood, Pasadena (Bayshore), Pearland, Texas City (Mainland), Webster (Clear Lake Regional) and West Houston as well as two specialty hospitals: Texas Orthopedic Hospital, offering specialty orthopedic care since 1995, and The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, a facility dedicated to the health of women and newborns.

A nationwide system of 79 hospitals as well as nine facilities in the United Kingdom, the Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare is united around the mission of helping people live happier, healthier lives. Across the network of medical facilities that include hospitals, surgery centers, urgent care centers, satellite emergency departments and diagnostic imaging centers, Tenet provides compassionate, quality care to millions of patients with services ranging from wellness and primary care to chronic care management, urgent care, outpatient surgery, advanced diagnostics, rehabilitation and acute hospital care. Of its 27 Houston-area locations, Tenet offers four hospitals, including the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center, the Houston Northwest Medical Center, Park Plaza Hospital and Plaza Specialty Hospital, which offers vent weaning, wound and complex care and low-tolerance rehabilitation in an interdisciplinary team environment with prolonged hospitalization.
