— UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON
A member of the Texas Medical Center since 2009, the University of Houston (UH) (www.uh.edu) offers a wealth of health science programs that prepare students for careers in the health and medical field; address health-related scientific, engineering and policy issues; and offer clinical programs that are directly involved in patient care. Conferring nearly a quarter of health degrees in the region, UH enrolls more than 11,000 students in its 97 health-related degree programs, and nearly 40 percent of UH’s total research awards are in the health sciences. Furthermore, the clinical programs of optometry, pharmacy, clinical psychology, speech language pathology and social work at UH collectively treat more than 30,000 patients annually.

OUTSIDE THE TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER
Beyond the comprehensive medical facilities and health care resources found within the Texas Medical Center, the Houston region offers a number of other general and specialty hospitals that address the needs of all residents.

— HCA HEALTHCARE

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, HCA Healthcare is one of the nation’s leading providers of health care services. Made up of locally managed facilities that together experience more than 26 million patient encounters each year, HCA includes more than 250 hospitals and freestanding surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom. The Houston area alone boasts 10 locations that include medical centers in Conroe, East Houston, Kingwood, Pasadena (Bayshore), Pearland, Texas City (Mainland), Webster (Clear Lake Regional) and West Houston as well as two specialty hospitals: Texas Orthopedic Hospital, offering specialty orthopedic care since 1995, and The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, a facility dedicated to the health of women and newborns.

— TENET HEALTHCARE
A nationwide system of 79 hospitals as well as nine facilities in the United Kingdom, the Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare is united around the mission of helping people live happier, healthier lives. Across the network of medical facilities that include hospitals, surgery centers, urgent care centers, satellite emergency departments and diagnostic imaging centers, Tenet provides compassionate, quality care to millions of patients with services ranging from wellness and primary care to chronic care management, urgent care, outpatient surgery, advanced diagnostics, rehabilitation and acute hospital care. Of its 27 Houston-area locations, Tenet offers four hospitals, including the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center, the Houston Northwest Medical Center, Park Plaza Hospital and Plaza Specialty Hospital, which offers vent weaning, wound and complex care and low-tolerance rehabilitation in an interdisciplinary team environment with prolonged hospitalization.

— CHI ST. LUKE’S HEALTH
CHI St. Luke’s Health is a member of the Englewood, Colorado–based Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), the nation’s third largest faith-based national nonprofit health system. Operating in 19 states, CHI offers 105 hospitals, including four academic medical centers and teaching hospitals; 30 critical-access facilities; numerous community health services organizations; accredited nursing colleges; home health agencies; and other inpatient and outpatient services. In the Houston area, CHI St. Luke’s Health operates eight hospitals, eight emergency centers and six medical groups that serve the entire region with the mission of enhancing community health through high-quality, cost-effective care. CHI St. Luke’s Health also is home to the acclaimed Texas Heart Institute. Premier hospitals in the area include CHI St. Luke’s Health–Sugar Land Hospital, which offers the latest technology and treatments for Fort Bend County and Southwest Houston with services ranging from heart care and neuroscience to robotic surgery and a Family Birthing Center, and CHI St. Luke’s Health–The Woodlands Hospital, which provides leading-edge treatments and services to the North Harris and Montgomery County with expertise in a broad range of services, including heart, neurology and sports medicine.

— HOUSTON METHODIST HOSPITAL

In addition to Houston Methodist Hospital being a leading academic medical facility in the Texas Medical Center, it also has seven community hospitals that serve the Greater Houston area. Among its area hospitals are the 200-bed Houston Methodist West Hospital—known for its full-spectrum of heart care, childbirth center and comprehensive cancer center—and the long-term acute care Houston Methodist St. Catherine Hospital in Katy. New in 2017, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a 187-bed, 470,000-square-foot full-service, acute care facility; while Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital brings the expertise of the Texas Medical Center to Fort Bend County and the surrounding area. Beyond the hospitals, the health system offers a collection of adjunct organizations that further its mission of improving the health and wellness of the community. Home to some of the world’s brightest physician-scientists, the Houston Methodist Research Institute is on more than 800 clinical trials in hopes of medical breakthroughs in multiple areas. The Houston Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation and Education is the hospital’s 35,000-square-foot surgical training center and virtual hospital that provides ongoing physician education and surgical training in the latest techniques and technologies.
