Renting and Leasing
Affectionately known as EaDo, East Downtown Houston is a vibrant neighborhood rich with history, attractions, thriving businesses, entertainment and downtown living. Starting out as part of the Third Ward shortly after Houston’s founding, throughout the 1800s, it was a posh area of Victorian Homes, but when railroads came through the neighborhood, it transitioned to a lower income area with commercial properties, warehouses and industrial developments. Recently the neighborhood has seen enormous changes, transitioning from mostly abandoned warehouses into a very hot Houston neighborhood with additions like the new Dynamo soccer stadium and plans for continued residential and retail development. It quickly is emerging as a hip and vibrant community in Houston’s central core attracting new residents from many walks of life, from young residents seeking a bohemian lifestyle like the Montrose of yore to upscale professionals wanting to live in a gentrifying neighborhood as close as possible to their work downtown.

Today, EaDo is near Houston’s largest employment centers and within walking distance of Discovery Green Park, Minute Maid Park, the George R. Brown Convention Center, the Toyota Center and GreenStreet with easy access to the major freeways, major thoroughfares and all points of interest in Houston via the new METRORail East End and Southeast lines.

As expansive as the Houston region is, many residents choose to live the high-rise lifestyle in one of the city’s high-density urban areas. — MIDTOWN
One of the city’s most historic areas, Midtown Houston was well established by the mid-19th century and today provides a living chronicle of Houston’s path forward from the antebellum days to its modern revitalization. “Midtown” refers to the neighborhoods south and west of downtown, east of Montrose Boulevard and north of Interstate 59. The most historic section is the old Fourth Ward; once dubbed Freedmen’s Town, it was one of the few places in Houston where African American people could own property and many of their descendants still live there. Houston’s Harlem in its heyday, the Fourth Ward was filled with jazz clubs and restaurants on Dallas Street in the 1920s and ’30s. Further south, the Westmoreland, Courtlandt Place and Avondale neighborhoods were posh in their day with turn-of-the-century lumber, cotton and oil barons erecting spacious mansions on tree-lined streets.

Today the neighborhoods and the old Fourth Ward are again considered desirable areas to live, providing proximity to downtown. In 1994, Midtown was opened to renovation and development and while many remaining historic structures are protected, they share brick-paved streets with cutting-edge townhouses and sophisticated low-rise lofts that cater to a diverse population of long-time residents, young professionals, empty nesters and students who experience home prices ranging from the high $100,000s into the millions. Midtown also is home to wonderful restaurants that range from humble barbeque joints to elegant continental destinations. The area’s new upscale retail shopping has risen next to established shops, and the light rail system links Midtown with downtown and other parts of the city.
