Ready to shed those winter boots and coats and stretch out outdoors in your shorts and tees? Discovery Green  is the spot for you. The downtown park kicks off its Spring 2010 Programming Season Spring Break weekend, March 13th with hundreds of free events and activities through the July 4th weekend.

The season is packed with popular staples of weekly exercise classes, Downtown Green Market and Thursday Concert Series and new activities like the Shell Eco-Marathon and Screen on the Green that you won’t want to miss. The park is open seven days at week from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Activities are FREE and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Shell Eco-Marathon
Friday, March 26 – Sunday, March 28
Celebrate invention, innovation and eco-efficiency as Discovery Green becomes a test course for tomorrow’s vehicles. College and high school teams from around the world design, build and test vehicles for maximum fuel efficiency. Shell and the City of Houston bring this amazing eco-efficient event to Houston. ART BIKE 2010 Presented by National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Lone Star

Don’t miss the exhibit of 26 artistically-transformed bikes by local artists to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. In conjunction with National MS Awareness Week and the 26th Anniversary of the BP MS 150, ART BIKE 2010 is an installation of art with a cause. Join the movement!

Central City Co-Op Downtown Green Market features local vendors showcasing their sustainably grown produce, as well as regional specialties from area farms and craftsmen.

Recycling Saturdays

Discovery Green

Discovery Green is a 12-acre park created by a public-private partnership between the City of Houston and the non-profit Discovery Green Conservancy. Since the park opened in April 2008, it has welcomed more than 1 million visitors and hosted more than 800 public and private events. The Discovery Green Conservancy works with hundreds of programming partners to present

three dynamic programming seasons each year most of which are FREE and open to the public. The Conservancy raises all the funds needed for the programming that Houstonians enjoy—and to ensure our park remains an accessible and incomparable public gathering space.

Discovery Green is open every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Hours for events may vary. Areas of the park may be closed occasionally for maintenance or private events.
