UST Named Among Best Colleges in America
For Immediate Release:
For the 21st consecutive year, the University of St. Thomas was named to the top tier of the U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges’ list of universities offering master’s degrees in the western region of the United States.

UST is currently ranked 27th in the 2015 edition, up six spots from the 2014 ranking of 33rd.

University rankings provide a starting point to compare various aspects of different schools at a glance. Combined with campus visits and interviews, the rankings provide a resource for parents and students contemplating one of life’s most challenging financial decisions.

U.S. News & World Report surveyed more than 1,600 colleges and universities for its annual publication, and based its rankings on widely accepted indicators of excellence, including freshman retention rates, graduation rates and the strength of the faculty.

St. Thomas’ low student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1, and the high percentage of freshmen who were ranked in the top quarter of their high school graduating class were key factors in St. Thomas’ ranking. More than 3,500 students come to St. Thomas from 40 states and 54 countries.

St. Thomas is categorized among schools that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs, but few doctoral programs. St. Thomas offers 35 undergraduate degree programs, 12 master’s programs and one doctoral program in philosophy. The universities in this category are ranked within four geographic areas – North, South, Midwest and West – because these schools tend to draw students heavily from the surrounding states.
