Taking care of Houston since 1887
St. Joseph Medical Center has a long heritage of being first. As the first freestanding women’s hospital west of the Mississippi, St. Joseph Medical Center introduced Houston to its first infant incubator and provided one of the nation’s first mammography units. St. Joseph also established the first Emergency Department in Houston and the first Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program in Texas.
Today, St. Joseph continues that tradition of firsts by partnering with Houston’s leading physicians and creating a facility that is operated with physician partners.
As St. Joseph’s moves ahead, the staff will continue to think of you and your family first. When it comes to your health, we understand that you want high-quality care delivered with unsurpassed kindness and compassion. That is exactly what you’ll receive at St. Joseph Medical Center. Regardless of the specialty or the diagnosis, our goal is to treat you with the perfect balance of quality, compassion, respect and dignity while helping you feel as whole and healthy as possible.

St. Joseph Medical Center has an active and dedicated volunteer group that exemplifies the program’s mission of delivering compassionate healthcare. Over the years, this enthusiastic group has demonstrated that they don’t feel they have to volunteer their time, they want to.
The volunteer program, for both adults and teens (during the summer months), offers a variety of opportunities that are essential to the hospital. Volunteers say that there are many advantages to volunteering at St. Joseph Medical Center, but the best, by far, is the feeling of being part of the family. They say it’s not only the friendliest place to work; it’s the friendliest place to volunteer!
