South Texas College of Law in Houston stands in the heart of one of the nation's largest legal, government, and business communities. Downtown Houston provides the perfect learning environment for more than 1200 South Texas students. South Texas supportive, flexible education is accredited by the American Bar Association and the college is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. Founded in 1923, South Texas is a private, nonprofit, independent law school and the oldest law school in Houston.
South Texas provides promising students a legal education taught by a dedicated faculty. The full-time faculty of 60 professors is supplemented with some 40 adjunct professors, members of the practicing bar, giving students an ever evolving array of courses to choose from as they plan their legal careers. The excellent teaching faculty bring years of practice expertise into the classroom, utilizing the latest technology, an amazing library with more than a half-million volumes, and a physical facility that provides a comfortable learning environment.
South Texas downtown location, surrounded by hundreds of law firms in one of the nation's largest legal markets, draws students from across the nation. Students attend both full- and part-time, nearly half the student body is female, the average age is 27, and 24% of the student population self-identify as minority. Diversity among the students brings enlightened conversation, debate, and learning to the classrooms of South Texas. More than 12,000 living alumni represent South Texas in every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries.
