Taking care of Houston since 1887
For Immediate Release:
We have a long heritage of being first. As the first freestanding women’s hospital west of the Mississippi, St. Joseph Medical Center introduced Houston to the first infant incubator and provided one of the nation’s first mammography units. We also established the first Emergency Department in Houston and the first Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program in Texas.

Today, we continue that tradition of firsts, through partnering with Houston’s leading physicians, creating a facility that is operated with physician partners.

As we move ahead, we will continue to think of you and your family first. When it comes to your health, we understand you want high-quality care delivered with unsurpassed kindness and compassion. That is exactly what you’ll receive at St. Joseph Medical Center. Regardless of the specialty, or the diagnosis, our goal is to treat you with the perfect balance of quality, compassion, respect and dignity, while helping you feel as whole and healthy as possible.

Below is an overview of the services that St. Joseph Medical Center offers. To make an appointment with one of our physicians, or to find a new physician for your care, please call 713-757-7575 for more information.

About the Company:
Since June 1, 1887, when the doors opened at Houston’s first hospital, St. Joseph Medical Center has offered compassionate health care to generations of Houstonians. From Houston’s first emergency care facility, to Houston’s first OB department (delivering one in every three Houstonians), to Houston’s first teaching hospital, St. Joseph Medical Center has advanced patient care through technology, research and the experience of caring and dedicated physicians, nurses and staff.

St. Joseph Medical Center provides a full range of comprehensive medical and surgical services, such as, cardiology, cancer care, behavioral health, intensive care/critical care, emergency care, neurosurgery, orthopedics and pediatrics.

St. Joseph Womens Medical Center, Houston’s only full service women’s hospital attached to a general acute care hospital, provides women’s medical and surgical services, a family birthing center for moms and newborns, labor/delivery/recovery suites and a neonatal intensive care unit for premature or seriously ill newborns. The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is staffed by the Small Wonders Team of specially trained doctors, nurses and staff who provide the smallest patients with the best chance at life.

Specialty services provided by St. Joseph include an advanced wound care center, behavioral medicine, blood conservation and management services, occupational medicine, sports medicine and rehabilitation, inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging, and Corporate Healthcare Connection, a partnership with Houston’s corporate businesses that provides expedited care to their employees.

St. Joseph Medical Center is staffed by over 650 board certified physicians and more than 1,800 medical professionals and staff. The hospital facility covers eight city blocks and is conveniently located on the edge of Houston’s downtown near the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Interstate 45.
