2011 Residential Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebates
There is good news for newcomers who have recently purchased a home and need to update or replace out-dated appliances (especially if the pending purchase hasn’t been budgeted for). Beginning December 20, 2010, Texans can take advantage of a state residential appliance incentive program which can amount to $40 to $1,000 worth of rebates for each applicable ENERGY STAR purchase. Eligible efficiency technologies include: clothes washers, dishwasher, refrigerators, water heaters, heat pumps, central air conditioners, and room air conditioners. Solar water heaters are also eligible as a renewable technology.

Each ENERGY STAR appliance has specific requirements and must replace an older, existing appliance. The replaced appliance should be recycled and a bonus payment of $75 may be provided for proof of recycling. The first-received, first-issued program is funded by the State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program (SEEARP) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and will be in effect until the $18.5 million fund runs out. To apply for the rebate residential consumers must mail-in their rebate
forms along with receipts. Residential consumers may be eligible for rebates for up to two different appliances. Rebates amounts are as follows:

Air-source heat pumps and central AC: $1,000
Clothes Washers and Freezers: $100
Dishwashers: $85
Refrigerators: $175
Room Air Conditioners: $40
Water Heaters: $300

This is the second round of the rebate; the first round was completed in April 2010 and distributed approximately $13 million of the allocated $23 million. Rebates are not provided for appliances bought for new home construction or used in a business or commercial capacity (including landlords purchasing appliances for rental properties).Visit the
